The family and friends of much loved dad of nine Willy Collins have immortalised his memory in a stunningly grand headstone located at Shiregreen Cemetery, Sheffield.

Willy Collins, best known to many as ‘Big Willy’ Collins tragically passed away in July 2020 while he was on holiday in Majorca aged just 49. The new memorial is the end result of a 20 month long effort spearheaded by his wife, Kathleen Collins to honour his memory and provide the people that loved him with a place to come and pay their respects.

The stunning new structure is comprised of a 37-ton monument and features two marble statues of the bareknuckle boxer, carved from the finest Carrara marble imported from Italy. A number of other features are included, including four flagpoles, Biblical scenes featuring Jesus Christ, and even a solar powered jukebox which plays some of Willy’s own favourite tunes.

While the headstone may not the most conventional of choices, it offers a real lifeline to the countless individuals who are still mourning the loss of the ‘King of Sheffield’.

Speaking about the headstone’s unveiling on March 17, Willy’s wife Kathleen said: “The sun came out for my love and I’m sure he’d be a proud man today seeing what your children have done for you.

She added that her “heart is broken” and is so glad she was able to unveil it on St Patrick’s Day as she knew how much he loved celebrating it.

At the time of his passing, Willy was the patriarch of the well-known Collins family from Ireland and had developed a huge fan following and reputation for his skill as a bare knuckle boxer.
