DOHA: Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) will make it a requirement for tourism projects to use light-emitting diode (LED) lights and faucet aerators.
Through this vision inspired by rules and tips from National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency, Tarsheed, Qatar would be the first in the Middle East and North Africa region to include environmental sustainability regulations in the classification system of hotels and tourist establishments.
Launched in 2012, Tarsheed targets to reduce per capita water and electricity consumption by 35 percent and 20 percent, respectively up to 2017.
QTA is revising the Tourism Law to ensure tourism projects abide by environmental sustainability regulations.
“QTA is reconsidering the hotel classification system to ensure tourist projects, products and services adhere to environmental sustainability regulations,” said Hassan Al Ibrahim, Chief Tourism Development Officer, QTA. The Peninsula
