Otaru Canal decked out in blue with 10,000 LED lights
OTARU, Hokkaido–After sunset, the city’s renowned Otaru Canal takes on a magical ambience, courtesy of 10,000 blue LED lights.
The Blue Canal illumination event runs until Jan. 31 along a roughly 300-meter stretch between the Asakusabashi and Chuobashi bridges.
It’s lights out at 10:30 p.m.
The winter tradition is part of a tourist attraction campaign jointly organized by the Otaru and Yoichi tourism associations.
A glass art gallery opened at JR Otaru Station to promote the city’s famed glassworks, and a tower of 2,000 wine glasses is on display at the Canal Plaza tourist information center.
In Yoichi, an area surrounding JR Yoichi Station is illuminated in the color of whiskey as part of the Amber Dream event being held until Feb. 14.
